Reasonable Adjustments for eligible students studying pre-tertiary (i.e. level 3 or 4) subjects

Each year the Tasmanian Office of Assessment, Standards and Certification (TASC) provides reasonable adjustments for a small number of eligible students for their external exams.

Eligible students include those with a diagnosed pre-existing condition, impairment or disability, such as a:
* Physical disability
* Medical condition (e.g. diabetes, epilepsy)
* Vision or hearing impairment
* Formally diagnosed psychological disorder
* Specific Learning Disorder/dyslexia (writing, reading, numeracy)
* Developmental Disorder (e.g., ADHD, autism, dysgraphia – handwriting difficulties)

Students from a refugee background (humanitarian entrants) are also eligible for reasonable adjustments if they have been resettled in Australia for less than four years.

The TASC Reasonable Adjustments Policy document provides further information regarding eligibility and evidence requirements, and is available on the TASC website.

The Reasonable Adjustments Application Form (RA1) is available on the TASC website. A separate “Personal Circumstances/Misadventure” form (RA2) is available for students who require reasonable adjustments due to unavoidable interruptions to schooling, or due to an incident beyond the student’s control (e.g. involvement in a serious accident).

Applications are due by the end of May 2021 and need to be submitted to TASC through Elizabeth College. Personal Circumstances/Misadventure RA2 applications are open until 29th October 2021.

Eligible students who would like to apply for Reasonable Adjustments should contact Sarah Newcombe on 6235 6559 or sarah.newcombe@education.tas.gov.au to arrange an appointment with a member of the Elizabeth College Student Services staff. This should be no later than Monday 17th May to allow for the applications to be processed and submitted.

All applications will require specific evidence in relation to the condition, from the applicant’s medical or other relevant professional. For non-permanent conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression, eating disorders, recent physical injuries, etc.), supporting evidence cannot be more than 12 months old. For permanent and ongoing conditions (e.g. autism, hearing or vision impairment, specific learning disorder, ADHD, etc.), supporting evidence may be taken from any period in a student’s life. See our info sheets regarding obtaining a report or letter from a medical or allied health practitioner to support your TASC Reasonable Adjustments Application:

If a student is unable to attend an exam due to an unexpected illness or emergency, a separate process will apply (please refer to the TASC website or the TASC Reasonable Adjustments Policy document for more information; details will also be provided in the EC Exam Guide which will be provided to students later in the year).
