In Tasmania, school attendance is compulsory from age 6 up until 18 years old. Parents and carers must ensure children are enrolled and attending school, registered for home education, or involved in an approved learning program (Section 16 Education Act 2026). Regular attendance is essential for every student’s learning, wellbeing, and sense of belonging. When students attend consistently, they keep up with their learning, build strong friendships, and feel connected to our school community. Families can help by:

Schools support parents/ carers by monitoring student attendance and helping to address attendance issues when they emerge. If your young person is experiencing difficulties attending, please contact us—working together is the best way we can partner to support strong attendance.
Ways to report an absence:
Include your child’s name, date(s) of absence, and the reason.
All absences must be explained.
If you receive an automated SMS, this means your young person was absent for a whole lesson. Automated SMSs are sent for every lesson. Please respond with the reason for the absence.
Valid Reasons for Absence
Students are expected to attend every lesson, every day. Absences are only approved for specific reasons:

Family Circumstances
Religious or Cultural Observance
Sporting & Cultural Commitments
Exceptional Circumstances
Extended absences:
For longer periods away, contact the school.
A medical certificate or statutory declaration may be required for extended or ongoing absences.
